High School Boys State Championships & CYR 25th Anniversary
May 16, 2009

It was a memorable night in Colorado yesterday as Colorado Youth Rugby celebrated it's 25th Anniversary and the HS Boys Championships.
Three matches were played in ideal conditions, and an enthusiastic crowd of 1000 strong urging the players on.
The Championship Match did not disssapoint between East & Aurora. The two teams had met earlier in the year in a seesaw battle with east coming out the victors.
Both teams again engaged in a seesaw battle displaying true grit, determination, skill and composure, the level of play was beyond their ages.
In the end, East again had the "right stuff" to secure their 4th Colorado Youth Rugby Championship for the school.
Damon Malo Smith (Denver East) was the Man of the Match for the final Game and Link Wilfey, former East HS & USA Eagle standout was the guest speaker and presenter of the championship trophy to the East HS Angels.
The Consolation match between Chaparral and Glendale was a battle to determine 3rd place in State. Chaparral pulled out to an early 14-0 lead in the first half, but Glendale battled heartily but couldn't pull it out in a 20-19 defeat.
The plate championship was awarded to Regis Jesuit HS who defeated Northside 26-19.
All teams were to be commended for playing within the spiritof the game and toughness.
Other Awards presented were;
Jack White (Aurora) who was voted player of the year along with a $500 scholarship
Greg Wolfe (Chaparral) received the Coach of the Year award
The Chrerry Creek Rugby Club was the recipient of the Team Sportsmanship Award, accepted by head coach John Oberly
THANK YOU to all of those who helped make last nights Championship Games a terrific memorable event.
